No, they are reporters. Not science guys. Look at the caption on the photo. "A German unit is expected to re-enter the atmosphere sometime in October, 2011"

A whole unit? Not a squad? Not a platoon? And who left them up there?

Actually, irony would be if it crashed on Friday, did not break-up upon re-entry AND rather than being as big as a mini-van, was MUCH bigger. Maybe it would be that cataclysmic event whats-his-name is saying will end the world.
