What? No comments about the right-wing, Tea-Bircher, anti-tax, anti-government, anarchist British Columbians?

The left-wing, commie pinko NDP came out solidly against the HST. It's right wing business that wanted this, since it represented a tax shift of 2 billion dollars a year from business to consumers. The idea was that this would trickle down to consumers in the form of lower prices - hasn't happened so far. (Worked just like Reagan's piss on the poor trickle down theory). You're losing your rightwing cred here, Bart.

I recall the HST as being sold as revenue neutral. Why do we need tax hikes to replace one tax system with another?

To cover the cost of the work involved. You know, to pay the people that are going to work on this for the next 18-24 months...

You're not serious, are you. You think the govt will go on a hiring spree for people to work on this? CC has already said she has a plan B, ie those costs are already incurred.

I don't know, we will see.

I found it ridiculous that Fortis raised their prices with 6.5% to cover the cost of renewing their poles and lines. I will not be surprised if the same is going to happen here.

Having more people working is never a bad thing, btw.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Brenda. Don't know what Fortis is, what their poles and lines have to do with the government raising taxes to cover a tax that was supposed to be revenue neutral, ie bring in the same amount as the tax it replaced.

Didn't you even bother to read the article you quoted?

$1:
Finance Minister Kevin Falcon has said the B.C. government would be looking at a $3 billion hit — including repaying Ottawa the incentive money it forwarded to implement the tax — if voters decided to get rid of the HST.

The net impact of a dropped tax would be an immediate increase in next year's projected budget deficit to $2.56 billion from $925 million, he said.

Hydro. And gas, too, btw.

Fortis is not "supposed" to raise anything to cover their bad management, but they still did. Governments are known to not being able to budget very well.
