The Falls is a huge spot for suicides. Most aren't reported as suicide is something the press usually stay away from.

They don't wanna ruin the "mystique" of the Honeymoon capital of the world.

It would be interesting to see though, if the suicide rates have increased since the casinos opened up.

Almost bit it that way myself when I was a rowdy teen. There tends to be placid little pools near the tops of waterfalls. They only look placid. I jumped in near the top of some waterfalls once. Wham! got knocked aginst the rocks and dazed. When I came to I couldn't go up--rocks over my head. I was right at the top of the falls. Luckily, I managed to get a hand above the water. Two tourists--one of whom happened to be a lifeguard--formed a human chain and grabbed a hold of my hand and pulled me out. I was almost a Darwin Award myself!

Another life lesson for that one: If your friend is flailing around in the water, don't laugh at him on the assumption that he's just pretending to drown.
