So a certain level of violence is OK? Many people here were outraged about the burning of poppies, and wanted all sorts of horrible things done to the perps. Imagine a country that doesn't have the same rule of law that Britain does, and you have what they are doing in Astan. Motivations aren't any different, people feeling disrespected. Those feelings are probably heightened when there are foreign troops on your soil, running the show.

Me I'm a free speeched. Burn anything you want as far as I'm concerned. IF only makes you look like an idiot. But if you're going to advocate violence because a symbol you hold dear is desecrated, you can't turn around and then condemn when other do it.

No it's not. We identify with symbols, for ourselves and our tribe. Harming the symbol is seen as equivalent to harming us. That's why the raising of the flag over Iwo Jima is so iconic - it symbolizes dominance over the other tribe. Muslims already have a really bad inferiority complex because they've been stuck in the 14 century while the world has passed them by. (Well for Astan they're probable stuck in the 9th century or something). I'm saying you cant equate the two, I really dont know how much violence has erupted over poppy burnings. I doubt it is very serious. I dont advocate violence in either case, I think the same way about effigy burnings, go right ahead just make sure no one is hurt.

The first being that the Good Reverand is an idiot and secondly the Afghans should be left to live in their self inflicted feudal misery, since it appears that no amount of military intervention is ever going to ever bring them to democracy and the peace and prosperity we know.

So, maybe we should be getting the people out who genuinely want a better life without the Muslim 14th Century morals and ethics and leaving the rest of these quasi religous savages or should I say "protestors" to their own devices.
