I was going to correct you, but I just remembered that there was a tractor beam in Star Wars too. I'm all for any research into Star Trek-like technology.

There's still that bit of experimentation into transporters, as well as cloaking devices... These are all very small-scale, but seminal experiments, but if they can get this down and funded, things might get very exciting 50 years from now.
