Alice Springs and Mt. Isa would be sounding pretty good to the Aussies right now

The Good News that the Ocker economy was hardly affected by the recent recession so they do have money to rebuild.

$1:
Australia's Cyclone Yasi, with winds of up to 300 km (186 miles) per hour, is so powerful it could blow apart even "cyclone proof" houses, engineers said on Wednesday.

Anytime you put your ass on the line based on the supposed integrity of your home, you're gonna be sorrily missed.

I just love the term cyclone/huricane/typhoon proof house. There is no such a thing, never has and likely never will be despite what some people would have you believe.

A little more truth in advertising would go along way to saving lives.

The high rises here stand up fairly well. If you're up high enough you avoid the flying debris, which causes most injuries....that and not living on mountainsides or in mountain valleys, along rivers and in low lying areas prone to flooding..
