Of course they can - after all, God just drops new species down from heaven whenever he feels like it.

$1:
The new species, called Barbicambarus simmonsi, is about 5 inches long and has antennae covered with a sensitive fringe of tiny, hair-like bristles, called setae.

This is fairly normal for all Crayfish, and the setae typically are interspersed across the entire body of a Crayfish. What makes the setae on this new species so special is that these "bearded" setae are quite large, frilly and have a very distinctive red colour. Some other news reports more aptly note the difference, and I feel the differentiating detail has been lost in news articles like this one quoted here in favour of brevity.

BREVITY - shortness of duration; especially : shortness or conciseness of expression

Such a nice idea....I'd like to see a lot more of it around here, it makes it so much nicer than having to tediously read through some extremely long posts that go on and on just to try to make some minor point.

Hey now!

Some of us need those long, long posts to compensate for our tiny, tiny brains. And by some of us, I mean me. And by tiny, I mean minuscule, and smoother than a marble. :D

Besides which, I prefer people know exactly what I mean rather than have a case like this article -- where the essential point is missed out on. I also am not offended when people choose not to read my post if they are not really vested in the topic (debating me, responding, etc).
