On the good side of this it is good that I live in a country where prisoners have right and can sue.

GreenTiger GreenTiger: On the good side of this it is good that I live in a country where prisoners have right and can sue. On the bad side you live in a country where people sue over anything, real or imaginary, and clog your courts with bogus/silly lawsuits. It's such a litigious country people are afraid to do anything for fear of being sued, and that insanity is spreading north.

That's the price you pay for living in American society. If America had it's insurance companies well sorted out, you wouldn't have to sue over nothing. The Netherlands is a pretty free society, but there will be no suit over bullshit.

If he really was bitten, he should be able to sue. Not that he deserves some huge award, but the state has a duty to keep the prison rodent free. But then, if we don't put all the rats in jail, they'll just be roaming the streets.
But talk about crazy lawsuits, when I was in NZ, they were just discussing the case of a prisoner awarded worker's comp because he broke his leg jumping over a fence in an escape attempt.

That is why they (should) have insurance. $1: But talk about crazy lawsuits, when I was in NZ, they were just discussing the case of a prisoner awarded worker's comp because he broke his leg jumping over a fence in an escape attempt.

He was barely injured anyway, tho rabies shots are no fun. Give him a couple of cartons of smokes and be done with it.

I never heard about a prisoner being bit in the balls by a rodent either, and sue... I just think you can avoid a lot of lawsuits by being insured properly.

A private insurance company would be crazy to insure for liability an institution that houses criminals. One question that wasn't asked is why the guy was lying in bed in prison either naked or with his ding-dong hanging out?

You know Prison life is tough when the rats turn to Prostitution. Probably should practice a bit first though.
