The e-mail that Ms. Reymond sent to Mr. Flanagan was blunt: "So you are in favour of assassinating people that you disagree with. Does the Reform Party have no ethical basis? Agree with us or get assassinated?"

he sent back a one-sentence reply that said simply, "Better be careful, we know where you live."

She said she is not asking that criminal charges be laid against Mr. Flanagan.

"I just want an apology from him and assurance that he won't harm me."

Since 2004 Flanagan has been just another in a long line of Political Science Professors who shouldn't be allowed to open their mouths in public and prove the fact that education doesn't guarantee intelligence.

Shouldn't matter whether someone is in power or not. Gov't officals in ANY capacity threatening citizens that question their ethics is completely inexcusable, not to mention reprehensible!

While I agree that no Government Official should be allowed to make threats to citizens, the fact remains that he's not a government official anymore.

He's now just another of the unwashed masses who happens to be the former chief of staff to Prime Minister, the operative word being former.

Saying he's speaking for the government is akin to saying anything I write or do reflects Military policy, which for obvious reasons isn't true.

Doesn't matter. If the 'loyal' opposition used the (then) 15-years in the past Mulroney/Schreiber affair as a totally pathetic backdoor attempt to bring down the Prime Minister, they'll try it again with Flanagan's comments. Yes, those other three parties are full of exactly those types of assholes who do something like that.

I actually had Flanigan as a poli-sci professor back in 1989 during my two-year half-assed attempt at getting a university degree. The class was pretty decent all around but even back then Flanigan kind of had a goofy sense of humour. I'm not surprised really that he's make this sort of stupid joke about assassinating Assange as it seems to fit Flanigans socially inept/nerd sort of personality. I'm kind of surprised though that he'd be so unaware that there'd be enemies of his in the university and in the media that would jump on this sort of opportunity to destroy him.

A bit old now, but Ezra Levant is implying Assange should be assassinated as well. He's much more slippery than Flanagan, and doesn't come right out and say it of course. Just innuendo.

Why is Assange still alive? Why is he being treated as a journalist or political activist? If someone had published the intimate details of the D-Day plans during the Second World War, he would never have been seen again.

Assange and his colleagues act like spies, not journalists. WikiLeaks could have its assets seized, just like the Taliban has. And U.S. President Barack Obama could do what he’s doing to the Taliban throughout the world.

He doesn’t sue them or catch them. He kills them. Because it’s war.

Obama has even ordered the assassination of an American citizen, Anwar al-Awlaki.

How does Obama see Assange any differently?
