Yogi Yogi:
Personally, I'm against any tax monies being spent for 'games'. If any city requires infrastructure funding, then that is quite another matter.
Added security costs are not an issue when a municipality is building roadways and bridges!
However, in this particular pissing-match, the funding for Toronto was approved over 2 years ago
when Canada was in much better financial shape, and the future looked pretty rosy!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bids_for_t ... ican_GamesSorry, I don't buy it. The government knew well before they funded this (August 7, 2008 according to your source) that the economy was headed for shaky ground. There had been rumblings for months about the sub-prime meltdown in the US and its ability to affect the global economy.
Call me a cynic, but this funding was granted to buy votes for the election (held on October 18, 2008), not because the economy was in great shape.
Like I said previously, if we had still had a couple Liberal ridings, we would have gotten the $706 million Mandel wanted. It's because the sheeple here vote Conservative blue every election that Harper feels he doesn't have to worry about losing seats here.
Honestly, I'm hoping the Liberal candidates here make sure everyone remembers yet another snub by the Conservatives next spring (the next expected election).
