It's funny, I was listening the Beeb world service last night and it was all about tensions between Chinese workers etc and the locals in Nigeria. It seems that Nigerians don't dig the way the Chinese do business.

Yeah that's true. The Chinese businessmen who go to Africa operate badly in China already. Probably nothing malicious, even in China there's constantly worker strikes. I'm sure some Chinese managers might have a racial superiority chip on their shoulder but it's not anything purposely intentional. Just business as usual.

But G&M is way behind on this story. Already Brazil, Portugal and India are all making massive head gains within Africa. And some African industrialists making moves the other way too. Dangote just consolidated a purchase of a flour company making Dangote Grp one of the largest conglomerates in Africa, including North Africa.

Big money to be made, I'm crossing my fingers for Angola to open it's stock exchange within 2 years (making it the 3rd largest right off the bat). This will help us manage frontier assets in the area easier. Right now it's goddamn nightmare.

So big money, the Chinese, Indians and Brazilians are making the biggest moves and it's harder as a Canadian since our government does its best to discourage any movement from here to the region, making business trips tough (lack of embassies etc). Pity really.

The real irony here is the western world imposes moral standards on Africa – a starving nation with little to no power – in exchange for help, but we don’t do the same to China.
Now as a result we’ve created a literal monster, sending hundreds of billions of dollars a year to a country with no workers rights, environmental concerns, no democracy, the list is looooooooong… in return for GARBAGE knock off crappy “goods”.

Way to give away the better part of a century’s worth of hard work in less than a generation so a few multi-national (i.e. country-less) corporations could increase their profits exponentially.
Now we have a world where all of the available capital has been given to our “pseudo” ally/enemy in China (lets not even talk about the middle east or other regions), and corporations control the rest of it (and with it elections, especially in the USA with the recent Supreme Court decision allowing UNLIMITED ANONYMOUS campaign donations).

Shhhhh, if you listen carefully I think you can hear Orwell rolling in his grave. 8O
