Our wonderful system in action...

Yet another government program that needs a total and complete overhaul!

If you are so concerned about your sister, how come she was alone with her dead mom for 9 days till a NEIGHBOUR found her, and not YOU??

Always someone else's responsibility, right?

$1:
Prentice said he became so concerned after visiting his sister and mother in July, he took his sister out of the home and called police, who told him to call the ministry.

"Social services said, 'Thank you. We're going to do a survey within the next three to four days'," said Prentice. "They did their survey within two days and told us to, 'Get her back, or your mom's charging you with kidnapping.'"

Didn't read this did you? It seems he was concerned, acted upon it and was threatened with legal action for doing so.

:?:

They seemed to be concerned as they risked a kidnapping charge previously. Without knowing the family dynamics, it's a bit off to say they were unconcerned.

Oh well, if I had blamed "the system", my head would be bit off for that. Whatever.

It's hardly biting your head off to point out the fact that

A) They had shown plenty of previous concern

B) we don't know what the dynamics of the family are ie how close the brothers live to the mother and sister and what kind of access they had.

Exactly. So it is ok to blame the system without that knowledge, but not the brother...

Well, the article suggested the brother might live out of town when it said he was 'visiting' which would preclude him from seeing to his sister on a daily or weekly basis.

The system did chastize the brother when he removed his sister after a two day review which suggests there might be a problem with the system.

Why did the brother move away if he knew his mother was a drug addict and an alcoholic, and his sister has Down syndrome?
(We all know the system sucks, we all know we can't trust it to be in the best interest of the child, who obviously has needs that never were met)
