This is just bizarre. They backed out of a plea agreement that Canada helped negotiate for Marc Emery. Then they deny knowing about or even being involved in the Omar Khadr plea agreement, but will honour it anyway.

No, not surprised. Highly annoyed at my party though.

Who expected anything different? The Liberals would be whining if there wasn't a deal.

The Libs and the CBC/Toronto Star/CTV have been bleating for months about getting Khadr repatriated.

What else could we do? He's a Canadian citizen and we have an obligation to him codified in a treaty with the US.

Come on, EB, put the partisan stuff aside here. Irrespective of whether the Libs would want this, it was the CPC that did this, and not the Libs/NDP.

They are ultimately responsible and they should be held accountable.

Again Gunnair, what else could they do? We have a treaty and Khadr is a Canadian citizen convicted overseas.

We have Canadians serving their time overseas as well, irrespective of treaties.

Yea, and they get their turn too. Khadr will be repatted, as will others.

Told ya, how could anybody doubt it. And we've had reports in the media where the Reformacons refused to allow people in the states to serve their time in Canada. But with Khadr they made a deal, it was part of the plea agreement. He'll be out shortly after being transferred to Canada, so in about a year and a half from now. There does seem to be a plan, endorsed by his lawyer, to keep him away from his family. I think that's a very good thing if they can swing it.

Marc had the same deal as part of his plea agreement.

Except...

"There's no victim in my case,'' he said. "There's nobody who's claiming I hurt them ... so you're talking hundreds of thousands of happy customers.''
