The Taser bit might have been excessive, but I rather hear about "problem people" being tasered than a Constable getting killed; however not many 72 year old can beat the daylights out of a well trained officer.

I don't necessarily agree with that... 70 is not old anymore. My parents are 70, and they are both in better shape than I am... And from what I see around me, in better shape than many police officers...

saturn_656 saturn_656: Article says the RCMP officer tased the individual... where does the transit cop fit in? I don't know where the Transit cop fits in but I found it interesting that they apparently didn't taser him when he had a knife but when he was in the hospital. $1: The incident happened in April when police responded to a call of a man with a knife causing a disturbance at a home. The man was taken to hospital, where he was stunned once by an RCMP Taser Which when you read it a bit more closely would likely explain the assault charges.

Methinks there is more to this story than what is being reported. Somehow I find it hard to believe the cop Tasered the guy for shits and giggles.

Let's put it this way.
For this cop to have been charged there must be 'reasonable grounds' to believe an offence was committed.
If the cops who investigated these two super stars think there is a case, well I believe them. Let the courts decide, it is the Canadian way.

Lemmy Lemmy: Tasering a 70 year-old person makes one, by definition, a PUSSY. Seems that cops really do get special treatment under the law. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/882189--are-these-cops-above-the-law?bn=1Too much not in the article to make such a statement! Maybe this poor 'victim' used something as a weapon. Maybe this poor 'victim is 6'6" 360 pounds. Maybe this poor 'victim' was under the influence! eg; Many years ago I was waiting for someone in the VGH emergency waiting room. Cops brought in a couple of young fellows who had been fighting. Not very big fellows either. (no cuffs). They were sat in chairs opposite of each other. One cop stayed with them while the other went up to the desk to do the required paper work. I was sitting about 8 ft away facing them. I saw one fellow slowly reaching down to his right leg, all of a sudden, he reached into his boot, pulled a knife and was up, across, and onto the other fellow, repeatedly stabbing him! Of course, all hell broke loose! Chairs were flying, boots, fists, words, were flying, people were scattering. More cops and hospital staff as well got involved in the melee. 8 or 10 people to get the situation under control!

There are excetions to every rule, granted. But I think that for 99.99% of all situations, a cop that can't take down a 70 year old without using a taser, even if the suspect is 6'6" 360lbs, is a PUSSY.

Your statement is clearly based on your lack of experience in such matters! I am not a big person at all. 5'6"-120lb soaking wet. Last time I was put in cuffs, it took 5 cops! The 'influences' I was under, I was in a black-out, I wasn't aware of my surroundings, and I did not feel any pain. ( until about 4 days later) I had a lump the size of 1/2 golf ball on my forehead, X-rays showed that my skull was actually broken. I don't know if it was caused by a boot, or a 5 cell, or a club. To this day, all I know is what others who were there tell me, and what I read in the news papers. And those who wrote the newspaper articles were'nt there!

Guess what, Yogi. These cops were investigated by other cops, who recommended charges to the prosecutor who decided there was sufficient likelihood of conviction to proceed with the case. That makes your high on PCP, 360 lb, weapon wielding, 73 year old man, a very remote possibility.
