Interesting the comment about 11,000 Chinese troops in Pakistan.

And the general gist of the article is about Chinese expansionism which is really quite accurate given China's recent claim on 20% of the Arctic.

I really don't want to see that happen. I'm not much for China's government, but most Chinese are pretty decent people. Same goes for a lot of Indians who are trying to drag their country into the 20th Century...and that's not a typo.

Meh, it's true. There won't be too many major global conflicts anymore. Perhaps in Africa due to resources, but those will be mostly wars of political consolidation, they will be short and nasty with clear winners and losers. I don't see any country risking economic growth for war.

Make money not war is the motto of the 21st century.

"Road to war" seems a little over the top SOunds like a continuation of an ongoing prickly relationship.

Yup. The only tangibly foreseeable conflict flare up in the short run is the Sudan secession vote in January 2011. Arabs are terrified because it will effectively end any and all Arab influence in Sub Sarah Africa and lock them into the Sahel-Middle east region.

Other than that any other wars are not likely in the short run. Not even Iran. They're too big to attack. Attacking them would be suicide.

If China presses the Indians the Indians will strike back. This issue is not about mutual aggression, it's about Chinese expansionism.

I'm personally hoping for a lovely little trade war between the West and China over their currency manipulations. Such a thing would cause problems for everyone, but the Chinese government would fall as millions went unemployed. In the US and Europe a dearth of Chinese imports would mean a need for more manufacturing jobs at home. And in India.

One upset would be in electronics at the Chinese have the vast majority of rare earth elements. Which would mean there'd be a massive spike in the value of electronics recyclers in the West.

Nope, I just want to see their government fall. A non-communist China would probably eclipse the US economically in a heartbeat.

I used to be highly critical of India's government for being only degrees of difference better than China and they changed to fit the times and India is better off. There's hope in India these days and they came a long way in just the past 10 years.

It'd be wonderful to say the same for China someday.

China already cut Japan off of the rare earth exports.

In the long run it was a loss for China as the war provoked India to bolster its defences to where, in the current day, such a war would be a real horse race.

Given China's bellicose behavior of late, an India-China war would align a lot of folks against China for both military and economic reasons. The USA, for instance, would stand to gain $12 trillion by cancelling the T-bills held by China.
