Some lady feeds the deer right next to my work and the deer are starting to get very aggressive when we go by.

The deer have enough to eat without laying out meals for them.

Yahoo, another knee jerk reaction by the politbureau downtown. I wonder if they sit around that big empty Conference Center/masoleum/council chambers that they built for the millions who were going to flock to Nanaimo and think up ways to look stupid. 8O

I'm pretty sure that this problem is confined to a very small minority.
Specifically one woman up on the mountain off Hammond Bay who puts out all kinds of food for her "family".

I'm also pretty sure it's already illegal in BC to feed the wildlife, so why do they have to pass a bylaw. Oh yea, to make it look like they're actually doing something.

If they were serious about the deer problem they'd allow a cull, but that'd require the Provinces input and from what I saw on the news the other day the Province wants no part of helping out the cities with what really ammounts to being the Provinces problem.

I can't say I'm for a cull. Frankly, in my deer infestation experience, the animals are doing nothing more than eating some veggies and flowers. Yeah, they love my tulips and chew on my maple tree, but they didn't show up until Barry began his big Bear Mountain extravaganza which wrecked a bunch of their habitat and sent them into town. They ain't coyotes chasing poodles, or cougars jumping kids - they're deer eating flowers. Suck it up I say, we caused it. Find different flowers and enjoy nature on your front lawn!
