"He does have a life sentence in the sense of his shame.....

What an utter crock of shit. How does anyone know if he feels remorse after committing such a heinous act?

Oh, the poor little victim...

That said... Is this an editorial error?

Oqallak's ex-wife, Michelle Branchaud, wrote in a letter telling of her pain at losing the love of her life and raising their two young sons alone.

Shouldn't that say "widow"?

I think you have to be legally married at the time in order to be considered a widow. Ex-wife sort of more accurately describes the relationship at the time than widow.

Then what is she complaining about "losing the love of her life and raising the kids alone"?
If you're an ex-wife, then you are divorced, so already have lost the love of your life, and basicly raising the kids alone, since your partner doesn't live with you anymore...
I'm sorry, it's details, but it goes to show how manipulative stories like these are.

Furthermore, this asshole should get life in prison. He killed a guy for no reason whatsoever. Who says that won't happen again? I thought the justice system was there to save the innocent from being done harm to, but apparently, it's more for the criminal to not have to "suffer"...

Some people who divorce continue to care about each other. They just can't be married to each other and never remarry. Also, maybe they had joint custody, and now the kids have lost their dad. I don't see any attempt at manipulation here, other than the lawyers comment about remorse and shame.
