If you ask a liberal "what part of Tory patronage do you not agree with?" they will tell you 'the Tory part, if it was Liberal patronage, I'd deny that it ever happened"

The only reason their pissed is that it wasn't them doing the appointing, but maybe all this animosity is just because they're afraid their long standing record will be broken.

$1:
And in the 1993 Red Book of election promises, the Liberals vowed to restore integrity to government and review the appointment process to ensure jobs were filled on the basis of competence. Seven years later, the famed Grit patronage machine is humming along, apparently cranking out Liberals for one out of every two new appointments -- if July 27, 2000, is any indication.

On that day, about 40 of the 80 appointments made by the cabinet were filled by Liberals who either contributed money to the party, ran as party candidates in previous federal and provincial elections, or worked on Liberal election and leadership campaigns. The total annual salaries of the 80 jobs filled is more than $3.8 million.

So really, the only thing that's changed is the name signing the cheques.

It's true, the Tories have turned out to be exactly the same as the Libs when it comes to this shite, despite them saying they wouldn't.

Patronage is "startling"? Really? Where the hell have these ppl been for the last God knows how long? Patronage and politics goes together like bacon and eggs, 'cept the bacon and eggs are much easier to swallow.

The Tories came in on an anti-patronage platform. As did Mulroney, if you recall. Then of course it's business as usual. In the fullness of time, the Liberals will come in to clean house, and the Tories will start baying about dirty politics. Twas ever thus, and since Canadians don't care enough to hold politicians to account, twill ever be thus.

R=UP

No doubt.

It's too bad most of the Conservative supporters in Canada don't seem to be as upset as they should be. Either most of them are just realists (in that politicians cannot be trusted no matter what they espouse) or they never really believed Harper's claims in the first place.

For me, it's a little from column A and a little from column B :lol: Although I'm not a CPC supporter by any stretch.

It's kinda like sports. If someone on your favorite team fouls a player on the opposite team, you might think to yourself "yeah that was a foul all right" ,but do you howl about it to the ref? Probably not.

the most unbelieveable part about this story is the politician that claimed that patronage was 'startling'. is he a rookie to politics?
