Now one would think you'd look at who posted the article and who commented on it first as I figure in your mind I fall into the "cheerleader" group based one past threads, yet I think I made it clear he's no hero and I'd bet a good portion of his fellow officers would agree on that.
Sadly it is harder than most think to fire someone from a public service job. This is the case for police and federal government. I knew a guy who got caught smoking pot in his office twice, harassed and threatened co-workers on a regular basis, lied about being sick all the time and neglected his work continually, had been barred entry to other offices for harassment and he still has his job. Worse thing is he knows he'll never get promoted or fired so has no reason to stop what he's doing. His co-workers are not more protecting him than cops protect bad cops. He's protected by union rules that were never meant for bad cops and other bureaucratic red tape as well as threats of law suits the HR dept is afraid to take on.
If you've never witnessed this or worked in the public sector then you really can't appreciate how frustrating it is. In private sector these guys would have been booted out the door long ago.
My bet is this guy is threatening a human right defense on OPS if they fire him since he has some sort of mental disability considering he's on some kind of meds and OPS HR is to scared to fire him. But like i said, don't fire him, make him a carpet cop and take his gun away. This way he's still a cop and accommodated in his job as well as no longer a safety issue to other officer and the public.
Unless I missed it I also find it interesting they never mentioned his name.
