And again, it's no surprise it's taken this long for some of our more Conservative members to comment about this story.

I think its great! Why give cash to people who won't vote for you? It's a much better prospect to give to those who will vote Tory.

It's politics.

Please don't try to say the Libs dont do this,

or the NDP wouldn't if they ever got into power.

And this is a world wide thing, not just Canada.

C'mon AM, you are a much smarter guy than this.

Another pathetic attempt to smear what is perfectly normal
for every party, in every country..

It's youthful naivety martin. They all do it.

Why wouldn’t they throw cash at Tory ridings?

Why give places like Toronto who haven’t voted Tory since Canada was a Dominion any cash? What's the point?

They can wait for the Liberal government.

That's right, it's no big surprise, because both big parties have used pork for decades to buy votes.

I don't agree with pork barrel politics (even more so with Harper and his supposed platform of 'accountability' and how his party would do things differently - which as the past four years have shown us is BS), but it's hard to call the Conservatives on it without also calling out the Liberals.

There's a subtle difference between contracting with party-friendly firms (epecially if it's for kick-backs) and showering party-friendly ridings with money.

That said, this overnment told us it was going to be better, and it hasn't been.

As to the accepted nature of the practice, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Yes, you want to make sure that your retain ridings, but in a minority situaion, I would think that they'd also target ridings where they lost by small margins to try and pick up seats. Use this as advertising.

I agree with you, although Harper and his holier than thou platform of 'accountability' sets up the Conservatives for this sort of criticism.

Since the Reformacons have lost a lot of support in Quebec, they're probably just desperately trying to hang on the few ridings they can - just not enough money in the kitty to expand into doubtful riding. They also have to be careful with their Alberta base (since BC seems to be going south for them too) not to alienate them by being seen to be giving too much money to Quebec. Which is actually a good thing, since the Liberals had no such qualms.

Well it soon became obvious to us all (even us 'Tories')that Harper is no different than all the others who came before him.
