You have to go into the Lottery stand with the concept that what I spend today is lost.

I only buy tickets when the pot is 30 million plus, and I know the risks.

The chances of winning are slim to none as that last 3 draws prove... nobody won.

My BIG WIN is my business, and that is the ONLY way I will ever get rich.

But it's still fun to buy a ticket and dream a little. [drool]

Can't win if you don't play.
I'm in the pool at work, the only reasonn I play is because if we win I want to be included.

Say anyone remember Abraham Shakespeare, who won 31 million and his new girl friend killed him for his money..

Good Luck or Bad Luck?

I already posted the odds last week. Your odds of winning are not, at a 99.99% confidence level, improved by purchasing a ticket. Your probability of winning is the same with or without a ticket. Think about that. But I bought a ticket and if I win, it's:

t-shirts for everyone.

But without a ticket your odds are zero, with a ticket they improve to slightly better than zero.

That said, when I win, I may even send people a postcard from my new island state.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
I don't even like to flip a coin on a decision, why would I spend $5 or $10 on a 0.00000001% longshot?

I get why people do buy into it. That urge to 'get rich quick' and such.
Because everyone has Mortgage problems, would like to pay off Student Debts,
would like to buy some food this week, and would like the spinning sickness
of their financial situation to be done. The desperation of the Prole.

But realize that if 29 Million people bought into this, the nation just wasted $145,000,000+.

I rather spend $6/wk on something that might get me something, than $10/day on a pack of smokes.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

That's true, but when you add a confidence level to your probability calculation, the statistical deviation is larger than the increase in probability improvement gained by the purchase of the ticket. In other words, at a 99.99% confidence level, your probability of winning is still zero, even with the ticket.

And I made an error when I posted the odds last week. I thought there were 6 numbers drawn, not seven. So your odds are actually worse than the 1 in 10B I said earlier. Your odds are really one in (49 x 48 x 47 x 46 x 45 x 44 x 43), which is one in 433B.

If you're hiring, let me know. I can pour drinks or hand out towels.
