Nuggie has it right, the navy is so short personnel that doing this makes sense and unfortunately it isnt the first time it has happened. My first ship was the Annapolis and it was put alongside the wall in order to find bodies for the new CPF's then they did the same thing with the Huron. The Kingston which is manned by the reserves have never been more than 50% operational due to manning issues.
The current issue is that 2 years ago the Federal government stated that the funding for afghanistan is to come from the yearly military budget, hmmmm the military is being run by the Army, big shocker the Navy is getting screwed.
I work in recruiting for the military, and no one wants the Navy jobs we have more than 500 available for this year, in comparison we had 190 crewman positions and they were gone before the first of may. There is something very seriously wrong here
