Actually it sounds like it is a loss to humanity. The guy had to this point lived an exemplary life. He was driven around the bend by his 70 yr old wife stepping out on him. Not that she has to take the blame, but I guess he snapped. Maybe dementia also played a role.

Nope, I'm going to go with fuck the old guy, I'm glad he's dead. If he's got a problem with his wife cheating or leaving, that's sad, awful and pitiable.

The officer had three sons. Now he's dead. Who's going to be their dad now?

He robbed three sons of a father for no good reason.

Not a much of a consolation to the officer's family but at least tax dollars won't be wasted on the cost of keeping him in jail for the rest of his life.
