Six months ahead of schedule? It's a shame we couldn't have given the MHP project to them.

It's great that we're finally replacing our 1960s era planes, but I can't help but feel that our navy is going to suffer because of all the recent Air Command procurement contracts issued (C-17s, CH-47F, C-130Js). Pretty soon, we're going to have to decide which is more important, a blue water navy or SAR planes.

We'll have both but the procurement for the Navy will be pushed back. Sad, but you can do more and fast with aircraft then with ships. The problem is the aircraft will end up being less cost efficient then what a longer term investment in a ship would be.

Granted, but the Navy's newest ships the coastal Defence boats and 330's are early 90's vintage, and are only nearing mid life, though procurment takes years and should be getting looked into fairly soon. Unfortunately the bigger problem is finding enough warm bodies to sail what we already have floating.

Blue water navy. We can contract out SAR.

The C-130 is a gorgeous aircraft and it's nice to know that with the C-130 Canada has a carrier-capable cargo aircraft.

I like how all this equipment is going to be based out of the east. First the Chinooks, now the Hercs.

The infastructure and technicians not to mention the Herc Sqns are all in Trenton bud. Cold Lake is a fighter Base

Last time I checked 17 wing had Herc's too, and it would be nice to have some Chinooks in the west. I know that I sound like a kid bitching that my cousin got what I wanted for Christmas but hey.... call it as I see it. On a personal note I hate being called bud, something about it just erks me.

Canada is discovering the joys of having to adjust to the post cold-war military reality. Static, defensive forces are out, expeditionary warfare is now the new norm. Air mobility is key to power projection.

Once the Army’s combat role in Afghanistan ends, we should look at concentrating on organising an air mobile brigade that can assert our sovereignty in our increasingly vulnerable north and arctic.

Lets look at defending Canada with our battle proven military.
