Good. I'm against the death penalty, and will come down on the cops when they screw up, but this guy needed shooting.

This being Winnipeg, was this guy native, and are we going to get the usual suspects out crying racism?

Or the people saying that the man must of had mental problems and that the police did not take into account his mental state of being

I don't see a problem here unless the guy was stone deaf and blind. Then he wouldn't have seen the police or heard the order to drop it........

Digger should be along any time now.

I guess you can blame the death on all those groups screaming for taser bans. A taser would have saved the guy's life, assuming it was even worth saving.

If the guy was native, let's get ready for years and years of inquests, seeing as this is Winnipeg. The guy could have been a baby eating, sheep sodomizing sadist, but if he was native, it was a racially motivated killing and he's a poor victim.
As I said before Dumbass Dumas Redux.

If turns out that he was non native ....end of story.

Any cop who wants to live would not deploy at taser when someone is charging at them with a machete. What would have saved this guy's life is not charging the cops with a machete. Deadly force has to be met with deadly force.

It's a whole different thing if the guy was just standing there holding the machete, maybe they would have used a taser then.

It's not appearing on the SCO's official website so it currently looks like Swan is beating the drum on his own.

But now that Swan has made a statement, I'll expect to see more "white bashing" at one of my favourite (sarcasm inserted) Canadian forums (and no, it's not here).

I have to respect the deceased's brother for stating the facts. I completely side with him. It was unfortunate this kid took the wrong way out of life or made a fatal mistake.

Another article with a different view

$1:
Chaput said despite repeated demands to drop the weapon, the man refused and police shot him. She did not confirm how many times police fired.

According to that it would appear that there would have been enough time for one cop to draw a taser, the rest could have had their sidearm drawn (if it was one cop by themselves then by all means use the sidearm). However seeing how that option has been taken away from the officers we're back to square one where it's the sidearm or nothing.

Sounds like he was native, since some Chief's organization is commenting. The cops are in for a rough ride.
