Good now make a 600 page judgment that says Religion and State must be separate and Islam may just start being on the right track to fit in with the rest of the world

You know, the problem with fatwas, and I'd say Islam in general, is that it's extremely decentralized. The Catholic Church, for example, is a highly centralized authority. If the Pope says something, then it's big news since he is the highest mortal religious figure in the Catholic Church. There is no caliph, or Pope like figure in Islam, and as such, everybody and anybody who can get into a madrassa can call themselves an authority on Islam, even batshit crazy people.

So...yeah. It's a good, but ultimately symbolic gesture, unless he's the guy advising Osama bin Laden or something.

+1

100% Agreed.

There was never spken a truer word.

There meeds to be a strict separation of church and state, and Sharia law has no place on this side of the Atlantic.

What about rabbinical law? Covenent marriages? Binding arbitration amounting to religious law when parties agree?

What about laws that impose religious values such as laws against gay marriage and abortion?

As the Left-Winger here...

I feel that all agreeing parties can be free to do whatever the hell they want as consenting adults if all parties actually do explicitly agree, making sure there's no "victim" to what would normally be a crime. That's just my personal opinion of what Personal Freedom should be like, for everything.

And I already oppose laws against Gay Marriage and Abortion, :D

That's my point.

The people who kick and scream the most about "sharia and/or other islamic laws" are the same people who don't acknowledge or agree with the fact people don't want to live under their BS religious laws and don't realize that other religions have already established ways where they can make people submit to their religious laws.

Been shopping lately?

Hell I lived in England when they still had that archaic no serving of alcohol on a sunday between 2 and 4 (or whatever the hours were).

I still remember my first time hearing about it. There I was in the pub serving happy customers like normal when my boss (the pub owner) came down and with a breat cry said "WTF are you doing". I had no answer. Ummmm, what do you mean? I'm serving customers.

He quickly explained the law. Funny thing was though that every sunday englishman always came to Brighton somehow thinking we were exempt from the law? I never understood why they thought that.

While I applaud Muhammad Tahir ul-Qadri, I can't help but get the feeling that his life expectancy has just been considerably shortened.

Since a Fatwa is nothing more than a religious opinion concerning Islamic law issued by an Islamic scholar, this whole thing doesn't mean squat to the lunatics that have hijacked Islam.

Now, had he called for a Jihad against terrorism I might have had a little more faith in it being effective.

As it stands now the lunatic fringe hides in with the moderates and you can't tell who's who.

Better they sort it out themselves. It may be one sided but at least at the end of it you'd know whether you had to kiss em or kill em.
