True but they have no other player with the C playing only alternates. The only real difference between the a C and A on the sweater is a team issue anyway. Alternates can deal with all the same on ice issues as a Captain. Rather silly a goalie can't be a Captain in the eyes of the league.
Silly, perhaps, but a goalie is restricted in where he can go on the ice, so it's a rule made for a good reason. Also, congrats for using the word "alternate"...I wish I had a nickel for everytime I had to tell someone that there's no such thing as an "assistant captain".

Yeah.......most refs don't speak "goalie" anyway.
I'm a hockey guy.......I call them boards not a wall, I call it hockey, not ice hockey ........and I say Alternate Captain.......not assistant Captain.
