He can't possibly play any worse than Brodeur did. 8O

Luongo will bring it home for us. But....don't we have Fleury on the team too? Put Fleury in net maybe?

I agree. The guy has a Stanley Cup ring ffs, so he's more than qualified. Like I said in another thread if Bettman gets his head out of his ass and recommends to the NHL Board to allow the players to play in 2014 then Fleury will be our future (along with Luongo). Time to show some confidence in the guy and let him in there. It's Germany for the love of Pete! If our offense can't win it for us in this game then they shouldn't be there.

That's always seemed weird. A goalie cannot be a captain. I guess someone in Vancouver forgot to check out the rule book when they made that announcement.

I'd play Fleury against the Gemans and Lou against the Ruskies myself.
Either way, Brodeur screwed us in the USA game.

WDHIII WDHIII:
Well thats why he wears the "C" on his mask instead of his Sweater

Gotta love a loophole!

Well, it's not REALLY a loophole. He isn't captain because a goalie cannot BE a captain under the rules of hockey. He can call himself captain, but he is not.

True but they have no other player with the C playing only alternates. The only real difference between the a C and A on the sweater is a team issue anyway. Alternates can deal with all the same on ice issues as a Captain. Rather silly a goalie can't be a Captain in the eyes of the league.

Silly, perhaps, but a goalie is restricted in where he can go on the ice, so it's a rule made for a good reason. Also, congrats for using the word "alternate"...I wish I had a nickel for everytime I had to tell someone that there's no such thing as an "assistant captain".

There have been six goaltenders named as NHL team captains. The last was Bill Durnan of the Montreal Canadiens during the 1947-48 season.

The league passed a rule preventing goalies from being a captain prior to the 1948-49 season. One of the concerns was Durnan left his crease so often to speak with officials it gave his team unscheduled timeouts during a game.

Yeah.......most refs don't speak "goalie" anyway. :P :P

I'm a hockey guy.......I call them boards not a wall, I call it hockey, not ice hockey ........and I say Alternate Captain.......not assistant Captain.
