Hotel Dieu has/had 2 hospitals in Windsor. Both have had their share of BIG problems related to surgery, although to be fair, not all of them were faults of the doctors.
In this instance, some ppl (not here so far) have used the excuse that doctors are only human and we all make mistakes, and that I can appreciate. However, this wasn't a procedural error or just a mistake. When you consider that reading is pretty important in the medical profession, this seems more like carelessness than anything else. She then compounded her carelessness by not immediately informing the appropriate hospital staff, as per procedure.
I will say this, if anyone should be sued, it ain't the hospital. And THIS is why we need to relax the no suing doctors nonsense.
I fully understand that you have to give doctors some leeway in lawsuits simply because they DO make mistakes just like the rest of us. But when we're dealing with gross negligence, and that's what this was IMO, then doctors should have to deal with the same shit as anyone else.

And, "I feel really bad" from the doctor and her offer of providing counselling does not begin to cover it. If she REALLY felt that bad about it, she would pay for this poor woman to have reconstructive surgery done by a damn good surgeon, and pay for the travel expenses as well.

I tore my meniscus once the doctor said "you'll probably need surgery, we can do that this afternoon "

"probably?" I asked.

I chose to wait the 2 weeks it healed fine and didn't need them to go in there and fuck everything else up.

There are worse mistakes than that. One guy had to have a lung removed, the took out the wrong one, and DRs in this country have the balls to demand limits on malpractice suits.
