Ir is common for car makers to take a wait and see attitude to recalls. They will let time go by to see how many people will be affected.

If there is little out cry then a shrug of the shoulders will suffice. Then fix just the few cars that end up at the dealer if there is more than a few.

If a few deaths or injury occurs, then pay out compensation and\or court costs. That will still be cheaper than a full recall. It can even be kept quiet and the reputation of the company will still be intact.

However if it is widespread then and only then will the bean counters tell the company, "hmm, better do a recall".

There are rumours Toyota knew of this problem as far back as 2007...some are even suggesting 2001... Sorry this is negligence...Perhaps even criminal negligence... There can be no excuse for this type of corporate behaviour...nor should it be tolerated....

They still do not even know WHAT the hell is wrong, if any.

Some believe it's really a computer problem... I guess time will tell...

I wonder if these problems will hurt the resale of these Toyotas? Or if the market will be flooded with used Corollas, Camrys, etc as people dump these cars...???

As long as the mechanics still dont get told what exactly it is they have to fix, they themselves cannot find anything wrong and the same pedals are used in Fords and nothing is wrong there, then I think Toyota is getting screwed over.
