$1:
Spinella said Toyota was already vulnerable. His firm's consumer survey from mid-January showed Toyota had fallen from its long-held position of first or second in quality estimates to seventh among potential buyers. Apparently, recalls that began late last year are having an impact.

That says it all for me...

Give some 'fair ink' here. Ford is having the same problem in some of their vehicles, and have halted production of those as well.

Both manufacturers are using parts manufactured by CTS. They are the ones who screwed up. Not the manufacturers who have recognized the problem, and halted production/sales until the situation is remedied!

Facts don’t mean anything to Stemmer. I linked all that info on a previous thread and in spite of that Stemmer had to try and express a little schadenfreude to try and make a point. He has a completely separate agenda regarding the Asian manufacturers. Care to guess what it is?

How many times must it be said? It takes 10 minutes to fix the problem. 10 minutes. 10 minutes. Free of charge. 10 minutes.

It's not a view that I can say I really understand. Personally, I have always favored NA autos. That though comes from the fact that I used to be, and I guess to some extent still am a 'back yard mechanic'. Easy to work on, parts readily available, and reasonabley priced. Even those though have become quite complicated over the last few years due to 'technology'! I've never put a wrench to my RT, but don't hesitate to tear-down either of my vans.

You hardly need a reason to engage in your favourite passtime of Asia bashing.

Doesn't matter to the shitiots out there looking for any reason to engage in thinly disguised racism.

The Ford and Toyota recalls are not equal. The Toyota recall is for millions of cars worldwide. Now compare the tally to Ford which is only for a thousand or two vehicles in China... Toyota's problem is going to cost them alot more then Ford's...

Of course it's going to cost more when the manufacturer recognizes and corrects a problem. North American car makers just let their customers pay for shoddy construction out of their own pockets instead of dealing with the issue through a recall. Not to mention that when Fords and GMs have a problem, you have a long walk home instead of a 10 minute service call.

FAIL!

The fact of the matter is that both manufacturers experienced the same problem due to a common supplier, and handled the situation the same way!

The one thing I'm curious about is if it's standard practice to send working parts to the factories instead of the dealers first.

It's not very thinly disguised.

As I've said before I have nothing against Asian people. I have hwever great disdain for the unfair trade policies and protectionism of Japan...
