There are ways to combat this without drugs. Create new neural pathways in the brain.
You'd be surprised how easy it is to do. Learn a new language, have days or a time of day where you try and do everything with your opposite hand. Do crosswords.

I also have a feeling that this huge projected increase may in part be caused by all the aluminum pop cans. I know there was concern about aluminum a while back, just not sure if there was ever empirical evidence showing a link bewteen aluminum and dementia or if it was proved there is no link.

If everyone lives long enough, we all get it. Just like cancer.

well yeah but some get it wayyyyy earlier. None of those ideas will necessarily prevent it from happening, but it has been shown that those with active brains can stave it off longer.

Now you see, if we had all these people smoking they would have kicked off years ago. Problem solved!

I know, but somehow, I think genes play a role too.

My friends gramma had it, and while visiting her, we "met" a "young" woman, who had it. She was only 52...

My gramma got it (86), but my other didn't, neither did my greatgrandma, who died in her sleep, healthy as hell, at 96.

True, genetics does play some role, but sometimes it fools ya. My mom's parents and 5 siblings all died of cancer before they hit 65. Most were in their 50's. My mom died of Alzheimers last year at the age of 79. Never even had a cancer scare.
But, as some old soldiers say, the Fickle Finger of Fate cannot be explained, it just is.

...the report recommends that all Canadians over 65 without dementia increase their physical activity by 50 per cent.

Let them die of heart attacks from over-exertion.

With the population aging, it is only one of the medical conditions that will dramatically increase in number.

And it is us that will have to pay for it...
