Some story, it was interesting to read. The Mall got worked up because he walked around and handed out candy canes. Only I believe some bosses are like that.

My initial thought is that the bosses were likely a bit old school and didn't treat this guy with the kind of respect that he is probably used to getting.
I still think this is the case, but I also think that he instigated some of it.
it almost sounds like a junior manager tried to ration a shortage of 3 cent candy instead of going out and buying some more. A bad decision on her part.
