The difference is we are smart enough to ignore religion to some degree in favor of freedom and love.

The Old Testament taught that, while the message of the New Testament was to love/pray for your enemy and turn the other cheek.....which too many people tend to forget.

The Muslims claim that Christ was one of the greatest prophets, and acknowledge him as being the Messiah(some Muslim scholars have even stated that he was the Logos), yet they completely ignore any of his preachings.
