A look at the actual poll results is interesting.
http://www.harrisdecima.ca/sites/default/files/releases/2009/11/11/hd-2009-11-11-en375.pdf

There has been a shift, it seems in the public perception of the long gun registry. However, the article you posted makes it seem that there has been a real dramatic shift in peoples opinion. Not so! For such a motherhood issue for conservatives everywhere, it appears that less than half of the people polled (46%) want it done in, while 41% want it kept. In Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, where one would think almost every one wants it done in, only 64% are in favour of getting rid of it. This is a low level of support considering the foaming at the mouth and the stupid rhetoric coming from south of the border that has enlighten the gun lovers of the west for so long.

Perhaps it is time for the long gun registry to go. Too bad as it was not anything like it was made out to be.

And ride, this was a good example of civil disobedience trumping law. I am so glad you approve.

Laws that are poorly planned and employed are worst than no law at all.
Gun owners are much less trusting of registration because they've seen it used for confescation far too often.

What possible differance would it have made if the gun used had been registered? :?

The could of saved millions by just adding a 3rd sheet to the form that vendors of firearms have to fill out when selling weapons and send that info to the government.
Ding there's your gun registry.

Can someone tell me if the gun registry did any good? The guns it controlled were legal, the guns used in crimes are illegal. The only thing I can see is it prevented people from selling their guns to anyone who came along. However I don't think that happened too often because not many crimes are committed with long guns.

Or am I mistaken in believing this law applied only to long guns!

This is a tacit admission by Quebecers that they cannot be trusted to own firearms. So to satisfy them Parliament should just ban Quebecers from owning firearms.

Speak for yourself! I'm an Ontarian and I don't support it. And neither does anybody I've talked to in this province.
