While I feel very sorry for the family, I do feel that the value of that medal just went down a little bit.

I don't feel that the medal's value has dropped, in cases such as this, Jeff was in a theater of war prepared to face the enemy when he was killed. I will however have a problem if they hand these out in the instances where the member took their own life in theater though.

I think they all deserve it, it definetly does not degrade the value of the medal. Somebody who was killed by enemy fire is not more worth of the medal than somebody killed by friendly fire. They both made the same sacrafice for there country.

they all deserve special apreciation, but certainly we can have a special way of showing our special apreciation, too. Whats wrong with a medal?

What about someone who died as a result of a vehicle accident? What if they never got beyong the wire but died in a plane/helo crash on the way into the country?
You can see my point. First we have a medal for Canadians killed by the enemy in combat and now it could morph into someome just dying while there, or on their way there.

It's a military medal and I'd like the military to be the ones who set the criteria, not the god damned press.
