They claimed company president Stephen Rapps lectured them on being responsible for unsanitary working conditions at their workplace.
They also complained Rapps told them they were no longer in China and they must wash themselves daily, and said: "You Chinese eat like pigs." Two workers were assaulted, they added.
Rapps challenges this version of the meeting and what was said, his lawyer, Julius Grey, said yesterday. "There was never any racist comment," Grey said, adding the amount levied was "crazy."
Rapps did call workers to a meeting, Grey noted, but all he said was that "things were dirty, people were acting like pigs." Rapps never singled out the workers' ethnic or national origin, Grey insisted.
