Another third world shithole to add to the places sane people shouldn't attend.
The world isn't a nice place and it's getting worse by the day.
I'm going to go off on a rant on this post....
Third world "shitholes" hold the resource ace cards.
I can name off at least 30 countries at the top of my head that we rely on for food in the winter, petrol, gas, and a slew of other materials (as well as manufactured goods).
Now, we in Canada is pretty self sufficient, large country with small population. Luck.
However, look at your Euro brethren, and the Americans, who have so heavily began to rely on foreign imports for their survival and way of life (Europe especially is a symbol of foreign reliance).
Its in their special interest to make sure that these "third world shitholes" remain friendly.
Niger Delta militants dislike western oil majors, every pipeline they blow up causes uncertainty in the markets and causes gas prices to increase, costs of running a business to go up, and jobs to be subsequently shed if needed (the great global chain of capitalism).
When the Honduran government is toppled, one of its staple export Bananas is disrupted. This following the same logic above causes instability, food prices may increase due to lower supply. In extreme cases if it is a highly inelastic good (corn, wheat, potatoes, rice) domestic inflation may increase. Remember summer 2008 and the rapid increase of food prices?
For every friendly regime that is toppled or overthrown the very way of life for westerners in threatened one way or another.
America uses its military muscle to preserve its own security by intimidating those it needs to keep in line; Europe uses its financial muscles. China uses political threats.
Canada, on the other hand prefers small charities and peacekeepers.
Africa and Latin America are the most resource rich places on the planet. They are also the most volatile, and sport honorably certified members of the "third world shithole" brigade by the bundles.
That being said if we isolate ourselves within our own boundaries and avoid reaching out, we run the risk of becoming isolated and allowing friendly regimes to be toppled and replaced with ones that dislike us. They may stop trading with us.
The very notion of that, places our whole technological and modern way of life at risk, because we are so reliant on them.
That being said, its going to come to a point where there will be so many people on the planet that someone will have to give.
Just a thought.
