The issue is pervasive. Medical science becoems more and more advanced. People live longer adn longer. We have cured or mitigated so many afflictions and increased our quality of life immeasurably, especially in old age.

But the diseases we are left with are much more intractable adn complex. Treatment for those relies on massive R&D budgets. And even if we cure some of those diseases, like, say, cancer, then there will be a new suite of even even more complex and expensive ailments to contend with.

That's the future of health care. The more successful we are at extending our lives, the more expensive it will become. The helath care system is being crusahed not because we are too sick, but becaue we are too healthy.
