Does his first wife and their kids live there?
It will be a nice place to run to when they dump him like they did to Dion.

Who cares? Some people are better off than others. Thats a fact of life. He shouldn't have to sell off something thats been his family retreat for over 60 years. can't tell me you guys don't own or don't kno people that own a summer cottage out on the ocean or lake?

Yeah.. It's no different than owning a steam ship lines or a hotel in Quebec..

It's not like the Grits would use it against Harper if he lost a library book or has a failed mariage.

Enh. It's a non issue really. It's not like he ran out and bought it himself in the last couple of years. It's a family retreat that was obviously owned by his family before he got possession of it.

What does bother me about it(and Mulroney was famous for it too) is if Canada is such a great country as they keep telling us it is, why would they vacation elsewhere when this country is so huge and has so much to see and experience?

Not at all, I just feel if yer gonna be or wanna be the leader of Canada, that Canada should be good enough to vacation in. There's no shortage of beautiful places for the wealthy and the not so wealthy to go to.

I'm going to use your first point to answer the second paragraph. It was his family that chose that part of France. And back when they bought it didn't matter how good Canada was, it wasn't a vacationing or retreat detination. It was a very industrial and gritty country. An example could be that just because you run a resteraunt that sells good hearty food doesn't mean you yourself don't go out with the wife to a finer French or Italian resteraunt for food from time to time.

What he owns or doesn't personally has nothing to do with anyone. If the guy is wealthy ( and he deserves to be) its his business.. more tory hyperbole

So as well as opposing accumuloation of wealth, you also oppose the freedom of people to live and visit where they like. Now you're going past socialism and into communism.

Oh hey kenmore, I was more pissed at Mulroney when he told Canadians that they should spend their vacations in Canada, while he went to Florida.

This doesn't really piss me off as the estate has been in Iggy's family since he was a little boy. Hell, I inherited a couple of nice properties in Scotland. I sold one of them and the other one I gave to a family member there, with the proviso that I get to stay there when I go to visit family.

And also Canadian Mind, I do see your point, but Iggy's been dining out for years while forgetting all wbout his restaurant here.

Really now  I'm retired at 42 years of age so yeah, I'm against accumulation of wealth
I also said I feel Canada should be good enough to vacation in IF you are the leader or wanna be the leader.. Not sure where you get the communism from. I guess you don't quite understand what a qualifier is grammatically. Did I say it should be a law? Nope, pretty sure I didn't. Did I say all people that can afford to vacation outside of Canada shouldn't? Nope, pretty sure I didn't say that either.
I just think it shows a bad image when or IF a nation's leader spends most or all their vacation time elsewhere.
