Nine vessels for the longest coast line in the world? We need at least three or four times that.

Made in Canada eh? Well that would make it harder to cancel by the Libs if they won a fall election. Harder than the Sea King replacement cancellation was anyhow.

The EH-101s were cancelled because they cost a bloody fortune ($5 billion), not because they were built anywhere else. Part of the assembly was expected to be done in Quebec, which is one reason why the cancellation penalty was so steep (to re-imburse them for investments they had made here in Canada).

For that much, we could build about 250 of these ships.

Canada really needs to focus on it's Navy adn air Force. Grnated, we need a well-trained and excellently equipped military, but with a country as big and sparsely populated as ours, we need a massive navy and air force.

"Massive" is not necessary. Capable, locally supplied, and properly equipped is.

The CF certainly is capable now y'all just need to work on the locally supplied and properly equipped part.

Maybe not massive, but i agree more focus needs to be placed on the air and naval forces. Ground troops are necessary to take an hold ground, but to patrol this giant landmass, we need more planes and ships, not tanks.

If I remember correctly, the plan was for 12 (4 to be purchased in 2007 and 8 in 2006), so this is a step in the right direction in regards to typical backpedalling by federal politicians. Still, at this price we should build even more.
