Well to be fair sig this is the ANC of South Africa - the people perpetrating the racist policies to begin with that are calling this racist. Right now south africa with whites is like Iran with homosexuals - they don't admit what they're doing is wrong. Nobody here is saying it's racist.

Haven known Canadians who have lived there I can back up Akhenaten's statement that it IS a South African reality. The fact that paper says what it does shows they are living in a fantasy world of cognitive dissonance about whats going on around them.

It seems to me that the complaint made by Huntley is pretty weak. I mean, do We or have We granted Refuge Status to others who were Victims of Criminals? If so, then I don't see a problem with this case, if we have not then I do see a problem with this case and understand why "Racism" is being brought up.

Not withstanding the fact that this involves a white man, i'm pretty sure that despite whites being targeted by black criminals, there are alot of wealthy black's in South Africa that suffer the same fate.

Since this is more of an economic problem, I think we've opened the gates up to anyone from South Africa, black or white who's been targeted by crime and I agree with the Brit's about an influx of white refugees after this ruling, but I don't think it'll stop with whites, we're gonna see every colour under the rainbow applying for refugee status, based on their history of being victims of crime.

Once again the immigration board has screwed up big time and set a precident that'll be impossible to overturn without a giant hue and cry from every other country in the world.

Having met plenty of these expatriate South Africans on Princess Cruises and Cunard I'd say you folks are getting a pretty good deal. Culturally, these folks are very close to being Canadian already and I'd imagine they'd fit in quite well.

They do. most popular guy in highschool was South African. Wasn't popular because he was foreign, was popular because he was so with it culturally.

A wave of white South African refugees would also be a boon to our country. unlike the typical refugee many would be far better educated and affluent, hopefully bringing their talent, intelligence, and economic prospects with them. Would also help boost our national soccer and rugby teams.

A) There are more wealthy whites than blacks in SA, B) Black person wouldn't be called a "white dog" or a "settler" which is what he based his case off of.

Every colour under the rainbow already apply for refugee status, only thing that has changed is now whites can apply where as before they were pretty much the only group that couldn't. Also remember he was able to prove that it was his race that made him a target

We can simply slap a visa requirement on SA. The only "precedent" is that the immigration board recognized that it IS possible for whites to be the target of racial discrimination. This ruling is no different than thousands and thousands of other rulings.

Seems to me you do not like the idea of a white person getting refugee status. Which I am sure many people on the Left side of our political system do not like either

WTF. Are you accusing me of being a left wing bleeding heart liberal? Or are you just trolling.

In no way shape or form did I say I didn't like white people getting refugee status. What I said was that colour notwithstanding, the issue is economics and the perception that white people in South Africa have more wealth than black people and are more likely to be robbed.

What's relevant here isn't his colour, it's that he was assaulted, robbed and the SA government failed in it's duty to protect him, which, is really the basis of his claim.

Some people may claim it's oppression, to be a minority and be assaulted and robbed, but with this ruling how does the government differentiate between him and some American from a poorer area of one of their major cities?

Now that they've opened up the floodgate to crime victims they can't, and it has nothing to do with him being a white male.

So hopefully this clears up your misconception that I'm some bleeding heart left winger, when the reality is that IMHO our immigration system is pooched and they shouldn't be letting most of these so called refugees into Canada regardless of their colour.
