I saw this kind of a scenario play out before, fortunately there was no vehicle. It was a intersection with the chirping walk signals for blind people, this young mother was standing there with her kid in the buggy, talking to 2 other women to her right. I had the light changing to red for me, stopped and looked over at the group of women. As soon as the chirping started she pushed the buggy into a right turn lane without even looking. It turned my stomach thinking what could of happened there right then. Man you got to have a look no matter what, just too many drivers running red lights anymore.

This driver was making a left. It's unlikely that s/he did so on a red light so I'd hold off on any conclusions until after the investigation. It is, indeed, a tragedy.

No one made any conclusions.

The article contradicts itself, first it says the truck was turning right, then it has a witness saying left. Just saw this on the news, the truck was turning right.

USABabe cried when she read this story.

It's still weird... A truckdriver imo would not take a right turn thru a red light, when people are waiting... (he would have driven straight over the child then...)

What I can think of, is that he turned whatever way thru his green light, a bit slow, his light turned red while he was not all through, her light turned green, was maybe not watching, and just walked, pushing the kid under the truck, unnoticed, unwanted...

All in all, its tragic...

$1:
Vancouver police Const. Jana McGuinness said the truck was making a right turn from Abbott onto Expo when the tragedy happened.

You should all know by now that if you have 10 witnesses you will have 10 different versions of what happened.

Depends on the viewpoint.
If the witness was opposite of the truck when the truck made a right turn,
from the witness's viewpoint he was turning left.

Maybe then we should change the term to "short turn" (right) and "long turn" (left).

It all boils down to inattention to all parties involved. The driver should have paid more attention to his surroundings and the mother should have been paying a hell of a lot more attention to the road! There is no way I would ever assume that the way was clear just because I "Had the green" or "Had the walk signal".

Drivers in the cities around here run reds all the time. A minimum of two cars ususally go under on red. It is friggin insaine!

My heart goes out to the mother. She will be remember her carelessness for the rest of her life. I have four kids. I just can't imagine! Damn!
