Who the hell buys tickets for an international flight wihtout saying what country they are going to??? Not that the airline that sold them their tickets was any more brilliant by not confirming.

$1:
The elder Rutten, who speaks German, Dutch and some English, said they didn't know there was another Sydney.

Of course there's more then one... hell in just Nova Scotia alone, we have not just a Sydney, but an Ohio, New Germany, New Glasgow, Brooklyn.... hell, even Halifax isn't an original name in Nova Scotia, ie: see the UK.

Nova Scotia alone has a crap load of identical names compared to a few other places in the world, and I suspect there are many more places in the rest of Canada, as well as other countries, that all use similar names.

Then again, the names around here in Nova Scotia can be pretty tricky.

Afterall I live in Bedford.... which used to be called Bedrock before the Model-T was invented. XD Yabba Dabba....

Whether or not NS having so many identical named locations has anything to do with an alternative ploy to pump up tourism by accident, People need to read their information properly.

I think of Sydney, BC when I hear Sydney, BC, and Sydney, Australia, all the other times.

I imagine that is true... yet it's not my fault or anybody else's fault here in Nova Scotia that people are too lazy to check their ticket information the very moment that get their ticket in their hands.

Whether or not they know what or where Nova Scotia is, you'd think "CANADA" being on that ticket would be a dead give away.

Or Sydney somehow now existing within some place called Nova Scotia.

I mean, once the ocean out your window starts to give way to giant green forest areas all around you and you see nothing but fishing boats and there's like a 20-30 degree difference in temps..... one's spidy senses should be tingling that they may not be in Kansas anymore.

I gotta head to Australia within a year or so myself, and I know I'll be checking my tickets over multiple times to make sure everything is right. I'm looking at about a 32 hour flight or so I'm told.... if I somehow land in 30 mins and I'm in Cape Breton for some unknown reason, I'll be pretty pissed off that's for sure.

If people don't double check their tickets, their times, etc. then they have nobody else to blame.

that's all.... no biggie.

They didn't get on the wrong plane, they just buoght a ticket to the incorrect destination. Obviously reading comprehension wasn't a critical skill for the grandfather or grandson.

Then those Canadians would be thinking incorrectly, beacuse Sidney is in BC. Sydney is in Nova Scotia.
Actually it's a brilliant marketing ploy by the government of Nova Scotia. Name a city after another famous city and reap the tourist dollars from people who can't read and/or own a globe. They should change the name of Dartmouth to London, Peggy's Cove to Rome and Cape Breton to Paris. :D
