Schnek Schnek:
why are we focusing on the thigns that make bad drivers do bad things... I'm not disagreeing with the idea, but I can personally say that I am quite confident with my driving and if I need to send out an important text or look at the map every once in a while, then cautiously and with the utmost care then I will. It's the education of drivers, not just young, ALL drivers should have to take, it's the bad drivers who are causing these accidents. At some point we have to stop legislating every little f'in movement that we do in our daily lives and start focusing on the education. How free is free?
If you have to use the phone, look at a map, text or whatever while you're driving, hand it over to a passenger to do this or pull over.
You can be cautious as much as you personally think you should be while doing these things, but it's not just about your abilities, it's the safety and security of everybody else on the road and if your eyes are off the road for any length of time, you are a danger to others sharing the road.
Global National was talking about this yesterday and it takes approx. 5 seconds to read a text message and by that time you could travel the length of a football field.
Driving is not a right, it's a privilege and if the majority of people are doing one paticular action that puts everybody else at risk, then it's going to have details laws focused on those actions and detailed punishments for those actions.
The reports I've came accross also stated that last year there were more accidents involving texting then there were involving drinking and driving.
A vehicle is for transportation from Point A to Point B, it's not your little office away from work, it's not your little social club, it's not your little entertainment unit.... it's a heavy chunk of steel that travels at high speeds that requires full concentration and attention for safe driving, or else people will be injured and/or killed because some idiot wanted to "LOL" something.
And if people can't understand this and think their little social device is more important then their concentration on driving, then they shouldn't have a license and shouldn't be behind the wheel.
