I saw a program on them on either Nat Geo or Discovery. They attack in packs, and scientists are still out to lunch on just how smart they are. Octopi, rank somewhere between cats and dogs and these squid are fairly similar.

I once saw a shark eat an octopus, diving off Belize. I was about 40 feet away, in about 15 feet of water. It was a 6 or 8 foot Caribbean reef shark; a pretty big reef shark. They're pretty creepy because they look like movie-sharks like from Jaws. Now, you may have seen some crazy shit in your day, but you ain't EVER seen ANYTHING quite as objectionable as seein' an octopus get eat'n. (that rhymed ) Sharks don't just swim around the reef gobbling down octopi at will. No, no, no. Octopi fuckin' fight back...FIERCE. I mean balls-out, swing-like-Mickey-Mantle fighting. Picture Mike Tyson plus Muhamed Ali plus 4 more arms. FIERCE!!! I'd sooner have an octopus back me up in a bar fight than just about any of my buddies.

So, yeah, octopi are cool, eh?
