Prime Minister Stephen Harper takes part in a press conference on the final day of the G8 Summit in L'Aquila, Italy on Friday, July 10, 2009.

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/s ... ?hub=World

$1:
A chief spokesperson for Prime Minister Stephen Harper is apologizing after he provided false information which the prime minister then used to launch an attack on his Liberal opponent.

Speaking in L'Aquila, Italy where he is attending Group of Eight meetings, Harper launched an attack on Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff.

He slammed Ignatieff for claiming that Canada is at risk of losing its place in the G8 because powerful nations could form a new group and leave Canada out -- a claim that Ignatieff never made.

Dimitri Soudas, Harper's press secretary, met with reporters immediately after the news conference, saying he had passed on the information to his boss the night before after receiving it in an email, without substantiating it.

That sounds like the Conservatives alright.... amatures.

$1:
..... Harper launched the attack after a reporter asked about his expectation for next year's G8 summit, which Canada will host in Muskoka, Ont.

Smith said a number of reporters were surprised when Harper went off of his message about aid in Africa and economic recovery, to attack Ignatieff.

"It's a rather extraordinary mess up by the prime minister's staff here," Smith told CTV News Channel.

"We know there have been many before but I think this one is probably going to steal the kind of message the prime minister wanted to come out of this summit.".....

Just for the record, I never voted for the guy. [titanic]

Reguardless of who supplied that detail, this arena was not the place for partisan crap. That should have been left at home.

I did.....

Fortunately it won't happen again.

Harper is so damned concerned with the "gotcha value" it's embarrassing.

Funny that what's catching the media is Harper's apology, not the comment itself. It's sounding like the the original comment wasn't even noticed by the media.

Since when has Harper ever needed correct information to launch a partisan attack. He always takes quotes and events out of context to suit his petty attacks. You'd think after almost a decade of such childish propaganda, he'd learn...I guess he still thinks it will win him a majority.

Like Dion calling to invade Pakistan? lol.
How's Paul Martin's 2005 peacekeeping mission to Darfur going these days?

I understand this was the stumbling point for this whole mess.

$1:
If you don't mind giving me a moment to address the comments of Mr. Ignatieff. The leader of the opposition suggested very recently in the last day or two, I gather, that it's possible -- I’m not sure if he's saying it's desirable or should happen or could happen -- that there will be a group come to the fore, a group of major countries that will exclude Canada. I don't know where he's getting this idea. Nobody but Mr. Ignatieff in the world has suggested excluding Canada from a meeting of major countries. Nobody. It's the first anybody has heard of it. I think it's an irresponsible suggestion, Mr. Ignatieff is supposed to be a Canadian. I don't think you go out and float ideas like this that are so obviously contrary to the country's interests when no one else is advocating them. So I would suggest that he look carefully at his comments and withdraw those. Frankly they would be irresponsible coming from anybody but particularly irresponsible coming from a kean Canadian Parliamentarian.

Assuming someone else was assuming something else, when no assumption was even made makes an ass out of the original assumer.

Amusing.

That's hardly a scathing personal attack is it?
Thanks for finally posting the actual quote.
