$1:
Although RADARSAT II has strengthened Canada's ability to carry out satellite surveillance across its northern frontier, he said on-the-ground monitoring of Arctic shipping requires a sustained commitment to deploying unmanned aerial vehicles and patrol vessels that can operate effectively in icy waters.

Too bad we have fewer Auroras than in 2005, and still don't even have plans for the slushbreakers promised almost 3 years ago.

I can't take credit for it, the Opposition called them that after Harper reneged on his promise of three heavy icebreakers.

It's not imortant who gets credit for it. It is Canada's right, not the Americans or the Russians.

Of course it belongs to Canada, but if we can't even patrol it, someday someone might think otherwise. Hell, little old Denmark has more Arctic capability than we do. Not that they have all that much, but rather the fact that we have essentially nothing up there beyond the Rangers.
