It's been confirmed by Russia as a 20 kiloton explosion in the NE of North Korea. Is this the time to strike, before they accumulate more to become an even bigger regional threat?

It appears Obama is taking the situation seriously and won't be punked around by these jerks.....
If a military action is taken, who will take it? Everyone's tied up in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Apparently China opposes North Korea's nuclear tests. I guess that answers my question.

Even if the US are in Irak and Afghanistan, they can strike easily NK. We are not talking about an invasion here but a nuclear strike on Pyongyang. Well, maybe not but I hope so.

I seriously doubt that America will pull out the nukes over this. There aren't really any good situations where that can happen, because it will set a precedent for the rest of the world to fire off the end of life on this planet.

What an absolute pain in the ass North Korea is. Isn't there satellite or something that can take out the entire North Korean government all at once? We'd be doing the people of that country a favor.

Maybe an air strike at specific nuclear sites.

Without China and/or Russia seriously involved, or preferably heading up the operation, the US can do nothing. A nuclear strike by the US would escalate to a global war. A very short one.

I don't see any threat to Canada, so whatever transpires (and I imagine it will be a lot of table pounding by Kim Jong Il and Obama), Canada should stay out of it. But this does provide yet more evidence as to why Canaeda should consider making itself a nuclear power.

The Japanese response to all of this should prove fascinating. I can't see much domestic opposition within Japan now that will stop them from becoming a nuclear power of their own. Given their internal efficiency and technological dominance in the region I'd bet that Japan has it's own nuclear deterrent ready to go in less than five years. Ditto South Korea. As the ones directly in the line of fire they probably won't allow and lingering sentiment towards their nutty northern cousins to prevent them from taking a more hardline stance and becoming a regional strategic power as well.

Iran isn't enriching the right kind of uranium to build any nuclear weapons.
