In this day and age, people peforming such an important task as protecting our borders, need to be able to protect themselves and enforce the law. What are they supposed to do, hit the criminal with a Liberal rulebook? GET REAL.

I think the American border policy is following GW Bush's knee-jerk reaction and as he's an idiot in the first place is why we have the difficulties. I hope under Obama the American side border restrictions will be relaxed so that the Canadian Border policy can be relaxed and we can all bet back to being normal.

Well the border has changed for ever..and there doesn't seem to be any indication that Obama is interested in easing things. I support the torys on this one..

We would have seen better bang for buck if we stripped the guards of their union memberships. These are wimpy civil servent workers, not the quasi-police force we want. Giving tax collecters guns isn't what we wanted.

Fire them all and start again.

I've always been leary of government agencies being the only ones armed but aside from that I don't really see a problem. In my wee seaport town, pop. 10,000? we have approximately 65 RCMP officers, a dozen or so Fisheries officers, and maybe a half dozen Forestry guys all armed. Bar Harbour has had several armed troopers dockside for years and years and I'm quite sure several other agencies today. So far things have been quite and I hope they remain that way as many are friends.

It's amazing the comments Liberals can get away with around here

If a Conservative made a comment like that there would be a shit storm from the CKA liberals. Maybe they're all racists as well 8O

or is it the Bloc logo that allows him a free pass :P

Well, thanks to The Gazette, we definately heard the lonely thoughts of Liberal public safety critic Mark Holland.. but is that the official party opinion on this?
I know Count Contradiction is hard to pin down on anything for more than a month but I'm guessing that his US leanings would be for armed guards.

Nothing racist about " thanking a muslim" after all you could thank george bush as well.. just giving credit to them for the aftermath of 9/11.. I mean they have already taken credit for it.. look up the meaning of racism.. you CAN read can't you... nothing racist about me..

I think a "thank a Muslim Extremist" would be much more accurate Kenny.

Once again this article shows the liberals like the NDP are living in a different world than the rest of us.

Before they decided to arm our boarder guards, there were no less than 3 cases in ONE year where the guards 'abandoned' their posts and left the boarder un-guarded because of safety concerns when tipped off by the US that something was going to go down.

Not only is that embarrassing it is a SERIOUS breach of security.

Just another reason to not listen to another mindless liberal red book platform. I just can't believe people would support this position.
