That is terrible. Obviously 50% of this province does not give a shit and therefore do not have the right to bitch and whine about the results or anything that happens for the next 4 years. You had your chance, even of you threw your vote at a party that doesn't have a hope in hell of ever having a seat, at least your voice would be heard as one with no confidence in the recognized parties. There are people in this world who would be grateful to be allowed an opinion.

Using the Stanley Cup playoffs as an excuse is pretty pathetic too. There were several days of advance voting so it's not like everyone was forced to vote on one day only.

As long as I pay taxes I reserve the right to bitch about the government.

Even with Obama election it was one of the lowest turnout at the polls. Even if it's presidential election (by the vote). It means something is wrong here.

Greatest indictment of the single past the post system is when the people simply do not vote. In my riding there are 100k possible votes, the winner won with 11k and that was twice that of his nearest competitor at 6k the total vote was well under 20k so 80k simply did not vote. If the people truly wanted change they could have it with ease, just show up to vote.

No, that's typical voter apathy.
We live in a DEMOCRACY, if you do not choose to participate in selecting your leaders then you have NO RIGHT to complain about their poicies.
Attitudes like this are part of what is slowly killing our country, and are a back door for despots and dictators to take power.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
Democracy is failing, not by corruption, but by society seeing what they perhaps
feel is de facto autocratic governments. "[PARTY NAME HERE] will win anyways. Who cares."

Alberta turnout in 2008? 41%.
That is 59% of the people who felt their vote would go nowhere.
If those 59% didn't feel their vote was worthless,
Alberta may not be such a big intimidating Blue Brick.

Something does need to be done... And STV is not it.

People are so passive in democracies...

When I can, I will always vote, no matter how absolutely useless it is,
in Canada's strongest and safest Conservative stronghold...
